(Montréal, March 17, 2009) - Astral Media Outdoor began installing its new Digital network in Montreal today, by converting existing structures to this new technology.
The first board in the network will be installed along Autoroute 13 and will undergo a series of tests before it officially goes into service in about a week. By the beginning of May, the Astral Media Outdoor Digital network will have ten faces, including seven existing faces that will be converted to digital technology. These sites will all be located along major highways in the Montreal area.
Introduced to the advertising industry last month, the Digital network features LED (light-emitting diode) lighting, an advanced technology that gives them outstanding readability.
Emergency messages and Amber alerts
In addition, Astral Media Outdoor and the Québec Ministry of Transport have agreed that the new Digital network will be made available to issue road safety advisories and, in exceptional cases, emergency messages aimed at motorists and Amber alerts for missing children.
The specifications and usage of the new Digital Network comply with regulations set out in legislation that regulates billboards along certain arteries. For example, in putting together the network, Astral Media Outdoor received assistance from the Ministry of Transport for the validation of site locations.
