Squamish Nation Announcement
Squamish Nation Approves Installation of Astral Out-of-Home Digital Billboards on its Land in Vancouver, North Shore and Squamish
On October 15, 2009, the Squamish Nation chiefs and council formally approved a proposal to install nine digital boards on six structures on Nation land in Vancouver, West Vancouver, North Vancouver District and Squamish. The signs will be in operation in December 2009.
Measuring three metres (10 feet) high by 10 metres (34 feet) wide, the billboards will feature LED (light emitting diode) lighting, an advanced display technology. The digital boards will display six static advertising messages per minute, changing every 10 seconds.
Astral Media Outdoor, one of Canada’s leading outdoor advertising companies, has been selected by the Squamish Nation to build and operate the digital billboards on their behalf.
Digital billboard technology has significant environmental benefits as it eliminates the need for ink, glues, paper and vinyl as well as on-site maintenance, which reduces carbon dioxide emissions. The messages on the signs can be changed instantly to provide emergency traffic information or, when necessary, quickly communicate Amber Alerts and other vital community information.
